Monday 3 June

Our team moved to a temporary workspace while the main office was renovated. Desks were packed into boxes, and cables were labelled so nothing was lost. I felt nervous, but the project manager said timelines were realistic.

Wednesday 12 June

Walls were knocked down on the second floor to create an open area. Dust screens were hung, and air filters were used to protect neighbouring rooms. Noise was limited to morning hours as agreed with the landlord.

Friday 21 June

New windows were installed. Old frames were removed, and double glazing was fitted to reduce street noise. Natural light is improved already, even though furniture has not been returned yet.

Tuesday 2 July

Floors were sanded and varnished in the meeting wing. Protective sheets were placed over fresh surfaces, and staff were asked to wear soft shoes when tours were arranged. The colour was chosen to hide everyday scuffs.

Monday 15 July

Network cables were rerouted under the floor. Wi-Fi access points were mounted on ceilings, and passwords were reset for security. IT tests were run before printers were reconnected.

Thursday 25 July

Kitchen appliances were delivered. A dishwasher was installed, and cupboards were fitted with dividers for mugs. A recycling system was introduced, and signs were printed to explain sorting rules.

Wednesday 7 August

Desks were brought back from storage. Chairs were adjusted individually, and monitor arms were attached where requested. Plants were placed near windows because air quality is monitored monthly.

Friday 16 August

Final inspections were completed. Safety certificates were filed, and minor paint touch-ups were done along corridors. We were told the office could be occupied on the following Monday.

Monday 19 August

We returned to a bright, quiet workspace. Complaints about cold drafts were gone, and conversations were easier in the new layout. Celebration snacks were provided, and photos were taken for the company newsletter.

The renovation was stressful at times, but the result feels worth the disruption. Work is done more comfortably now, and visitors are impressed when they are invited for meetings in the refreshed rooms.
