Repaso: condicionales, pasiva y estilo indirecto (B2)

If the bridge had been repaired, the accident wouldn't have happened**.

B2 Tiempos avanzados ·

Lo que sostiene todo el curso

1) Condicionales: presente o futuro irreal - if + past simple, would + infinitivo; pasado irreal - if + past perfect, would have + participio; en la mixta eliges el tiempo de cada parte por la marca temporal (now, yesterday, in 2019). Después de if no va would. 2) Pasiva: be + participio, y el tiempo lo marca solo be: has been done, had been done, will be done, was being done, must be done. 3) Preguntas indirectas: asked + if / whether o la palabra interrogativa, orden de frase afirmativa, sin do / does / did, y el tiempo retrocede. 4) Órdenes y peticiones: told / asked + persona + (not) to + infinitivo.

TipoFormaEjemplo
segundo: irreal ahoraif + past simple, would + verboIf I were you, I would call the manager.
tercero: pasado irrealif + past perfect, would have + participioIf we had left earlier, we would have caught the train.
tercero con pasivaif + had been + participioIf the bridge had been repaired, nobody would have been hurt.

Condicionales mixtas

QuéFormaEjemplo
condición pasada, resultado presenteif + past perfect, would + verboIf I had taken that job, I would live in Leeds now.
hecho presente, resultado pasadoif + past simple, would have + participioIf she were more careful, she would have noticed the error yesterday.
mixta con pasivaif + had been + participio, would + verboIf the road had been built, the village would be busier now.

Pasiva en todos los tiempos

Estilo indirecto: preguntas y órdenes

QuéEstilo directoEstilo indirecto
pregunta de sí o no"Have you finished?"She asked if I had finished.
palabra interrogativa"Where do you work?"He asked where I worked.
orden"Wait here."He told me to wait there.
prohibición"Don't touch it."She told us not to touch it.
orden y pasiva"The room must be cleaned."He told us the room had to be cleaned.
pregunta y condicional"What would you do if you lost your job?"She asked me what I would do if I lost my job.

En inglés el condicional would vive solo en la parte principal: If I had known, I would have told you.

El inglés pide sujeto y usa be + participio: The bridge has been repaired. No pierdas be: después de must, can, need to y have to va be + participio (The room had to be cleaned, no *had to clean*).

He asked where I worked, no *asked where did I work*. Para una orden, «me dijo que cerrara la puerta» (que + subjuntivo) pasa a told me to close: sin that, sin segundo sujeto. En She asked me what I would do if I lost my job se ven juntas las dos reglas: orden afirmativo y retroceso.

Ejemplos donde se combinan las reglas

  • If the bridge had been repaired, the accident wouldn't have happened. Si hubieran reparado el puente, el accidente no habría ocurrido.
  • If the road had been built, the village would be busier now.
  • She asked me what I would do if I lost my job. Me preguntó qué haría yo si perdiera mi trabajo.
  • He told us the room had to be cleaned before noon.
  • The inspector asked whether the walls had been checked.
  • If I were you, I would tell them to fix the roof before the rain.
  • My boss asked why the report hadn't been finished. If I had started earlier, it would have been ready.
  • The guests were told to wait while the lift was being repaired.

  • If the bridge would have been repaired, the accident wouldn't have happened. If the bridge had been repaired, the accident wouldn't have happened. Después de if no va would.
  • She asked me what would I do if I lost my job. She asked me what I would do if I lost my job. En la pregunta indirecta, orden de afirmación.
  • He asked me that if I had a job. He asked me if I had a job. No se pone that delante de if.
  • The manager told me don't be late. The manager told me not to be late. La prohibición es not to + infinitivo.
  • He told us the room had to clean. He told us the room had to be cleaned. La habitación no actúa: be + participio.
  • The roof will be repair next week. The roof will be repaired next week.
  • The bridge was repairing when the storm came. The bridge was being repaired when the storm came. El puente no actúa: was being + participio.
  • She asked me what I will do if I lost my job. She asked me what I would do if I lost my job. Tras asked en pasado va would, no will.

Preguntas y respuestas

Presente o futuro irreal: segundo tipo (if I knew, I would tell). Pasado irreal: tercero (if I had known, I would have told). Si la condición es pasada y el resultado actual, o al revés, cada parte lleva su forma: If I had left earlier, I would be at home now.

Pon be en el tiempo que necesites y añade el participio: has been done, had been done, will be done, was being done, must be done. El participio no cambia; solo cambia be.

Si lo dicho sigue siendo verdad, puedes mantener el tiempo: She asked me where I live.

¿Uso if o whether?

En la pregunta indirecta de sí o no son intercambiables: He asked if I was ready y He asked whether I was ready significan lo mismo. Whether se usa también delante de or not.

En estas condicionales, no. Would va en la oración principal: If I had more time, I would learn Italian.
