I am Ingrid, a language tutor in Oslo. One of my students, Mateo, has studied English since January, and his progress has encouraged our weekly lessons.
Mateo has attended classes twice a week since the second week of January. He has completed homework tasks regularly, and he has rarely missed sessions because of travel.
He has lived in Norway for two years, yet he has used English mainly at work since his company switched international clients in 2023. Meetings have required clear emails and presentations since that policy change.
Since January Mateo has expanded vocabulary through podcasts during commutes. He has listened to news summaries for twenty minutes each morning since February. New phrases have appeared in his speaking gradually.
He has practiced speaking with colleagues for three months. Lunch conversations have moved from Norwegian to English since his team hired staff from Edinburgh. Mateo has gained confidence during those informal chats.
Writing has improved since he started a journal in March. Short entries have described daily events, and I have corrected recurring errors during lessons. His sentences have grown more accurate since April.
Mateo has watched series with English subtitles since January. At first he has paused frequently, yet he has understood plots without subtitles since May. Entertainment has made study feel less like obligation.
Pronunciation drills have filled ten minutes at the end of each lesson since we identified problem sounds in February. He has recorded himself since March and has compared clips month by month.
Mateo has planned a business trip to London since June. He has researched polite phrases for meetings, and he has rehearsed introductions since July. Practical goals have motivated study beyond textbook units.
Since January his effort has produced visible results. Duration measured in months and starting points measured in calendar dates have both shaped his learning story. I have told him that consistency since a clear start has mattered more than occasional intensive cramming.
