Hi Sofia,
I want to tell you about my first cooking class at the community centre on River Road. The room had four stoves, long tables, and sharp knives in wooden blocks near the window.
Last Wednesday I arrived early and met Mrs Lane, our teacher. She wore a clean apron and gave each student a printed recipe for pasta sauce. I forgot my notebook at home, but Tom lent me paper from his bag before the lesson began.
Mrs Lane showed us how to cut onions without tears. She stood beside me and watched my hands on the board. I chose garlic and tomatoes from a basket near the sink while other students read their lists quietly.
We made sauce in pairs at the front stove. I cut vegetables while Tom stirred the pot and added herbs from small jars on the shelf. The kitchen soon smelled of olive oil and fresh basil from the garden outside the back door.
Mrs Lane tasted every sauce and gave kind feedback to each group. She said our team balanced the salt well and used enough herbs. I felt happy when she wrote a star next to our names on the board near the clock.
After we ate a small portion together at the long table, I bought bread at a shop on the corner. I kept the recipe in my pocket and sent you a photo from the window before I left the building at eight.
On the bus home I thought about what I learned that evening. Mom tasted my leftover sauce and said it was better than she expected from a first lesson. I told her about the teacher and the friendly students who helped each other all night.
Maybe we can cook together when you visit next month. I will bring tomatoes, herbs, and the recipe Mrs Lane gave us after class.
