My grandmother lives in a village thirty minutes from our town. We visit her on weekends when the weather is good. I love staying at her house because it feels quiet and warm there.

In the morning, my grandmother makes breakfast in the kitchen. The kitchen is on the ground floor at the back of the house. The table sits in the center of the kitchen. We eat there together every morning. Fresh bread and jam sit on a wooden board in the middle of the table.
After breakfast, I help my grandmother in the garden. She grows vegetables in long beds along the stone wall. I water the plants near the small greenhouse at the back. She shows me which vegetables are ready and which ones still need more time.
In the afternoon, we sit together in the living room. There are comfortable armchairs in the room and a low table in front of the fireplace. My grandmother keeps old photos in a box on the shelf above the fireplace. We look at them together on quiet afternoons.
Her dog Ruffles sleeps on the mat at the front door. He runs in the garden all morning and rests in the shade of the apple tree in the afternoon. He likes to sit at my feet when I read on the big sofa in the living room.
On Sunday morning, we walk to the village shop on the main road. The shop is in a small building at the corner of the lane. We buy milk, butter, and biscuits there each week. The owner greets us at the counter.
I feel completely safe at my grandmother's house. Everything has its place in her home, and the days move slowly there. I sleep well in the little bedroom at the top of the stairs. I always look forward to our weekend visits.
