One afternoon we joined a local festival in the square. Musicians were playing traditional songs, and children were dancing in a circle near the fountain. Vendors were selling honey, bread, and handmade toys under colourful awnings.
We did not eat at restaurants every night. Most evenings we were cooking simple meals on the small stove and were eating on the terrace. Neighbours were greeting us warmly, and sometimes we were sharing fruit from their gardens.
On the final morning I was walking alone to the harbour before sunrise. Boats were leaving quietly, and the water was silver in the early light. I was remembering conversations with my partner about returning next year with friends.
The holiday ended with a slow drive home through green hills. Everyone was tired but happy, and the car was full of sand and souvenirs. I was not ready for office emails, yet I was grateful for the pause we shared together.
Those two weeks still feel close when winter arrives. We were swimming, exploring, and listening to the sea before autumn began. Last summer gave us stories we tell again whenever the city feels too loud.

While з Past Continuous: were stopping (довша фонова дія) + were crashing (інша паралельна дія).

Заперечення Past Continuous

was not + -ing
was not + -ing утворює заперечення: was not worried (не хвилювався).
Для опису того, що НЕ відбувалося.
Past Continuous для звичок у минулому
Most evenings we were cooking simple meals
were + -ing з часовими маркерами
Most evenings we were cooking = Past Continuous показує повторювану дію в минулому періоді.
Для опису звичок у минулому, а не одноразових дій.

was walking (continuous) + was leaving або left (simple)
