The garden needs more work than the kitchen. Dad will arrive earlier than Mom, and he loves plants more than any other hobby. We must water the tomatoes and cut some branches near the fence. There are many weeds this year because rain was heavier than usual in March.
At noon we will cook lunch together. Luis thinks pasta is easier than soup for many guests. I said we should buy some cheese and some salad because Mom eats less meat than Dad. We do not have much butter, so I will stop at the shop for some on the way home.
In the afternoon Luis must finish a report for his course. I should prepare some slides for a school presentation on Monday. We agreed to work in separate rooms because noise distracts us more quickly than any phone message.
Our cousin Sara called and said she might bring some dessert. I asked if she had any fruit cake left from her bakery job. She laughed and said she would bring some if the oven will work on Saturday night.
Before guests arrive we must hide some clutter in the cupboard. Luis says the shelf is fuller than the one in the hallway, but visitors will not open any door if the table looks tidy. I think flowers will make the room warmer than any extra decoration.
Sunday traffic will be busier than Saturday on the motorway. Mom texted that they will leave at nine, so we should finish cleaning before eleven. Dad said he will need some coffee after the drive because the journey will take longer than three hours this time.
When they arrive we will show them the new photos on the wall. Luis hung them higher than I expected, but the light is better than near the sofa. Mom will ask many questions about school, and we must answer with some patience.
After dinner we will walk to the river because the path is prettier than the main road at sunset. Dad said he should exercise more than he did in winter. We will stroll slowly and talk about plans for summer.
Weekends with family feel shorter than quiet weekends alone, yet some preparation and some shared tasks make the visit smoother than any rushed welcome at the door.
