I am Nina. Last Friday I planned to meet my friends at Riverside Café at six. I left work late because a client had called with urgent questions before I could pack my bag.

When I reached the café at six twenty, the table near the window was empty. The waiter told me my friends had already left ten minutes earlier. They had waited outside until the rain had stopped, but then they had decided to move to the cinema lobby.

I felt disappointed because I had not checked my phone during the commute. My friend Leo had sent three messages while I had been on the bus. He had written that they had finished their coffee and had walked toward the station.

At the counter I ordered tea and asked the waiter if anyone had left a scarf on the chair. He said no customer had reported lost items that evening. I sat alone and realized I had forgotten to confirm the meeting time that morning.

Before I arrived, the group had discussed a film they wanted to see. Maria had bought tickets online while Tom had reserved seats in the middle row. They had agreed to meet again after the show if I had still been free.

I called Leo and learned they had entered the cinema at six fifteen. The previews had started before my call connected. Leo said they had saved a seat for me, but the ticket clerk had closed the late entry window by then.

I took a taxi to the cinema and reached the lobby at six forty-five. The staff told me the main feature had begun and latecomers had to wait in the corridor. I had missed the opening scene that Maria had praised all week.

While I waited, I read messages I had ignored earlier. Tom had sent a photo of popcorn he had ordered. Maria had asked if I had seen her blue scarf at the café. I replied that I had not found it yet.

After twenty minutes an usher let me enter quietly. My friends had moved to the end of the row to make space. They whispered that the villain had appeared before the hero had discovered the secret letter.

When the film ended, we talked outside under the awning. Maria said she had never seen a plot twist so early in a story. Tom admitted he had guessed part of the ending because he had read a review the night before.

We walked to a late kitchen that had stayed open despite the rain. Leo said the staff had prepared soup after the dinner rush had finished. I apologized because I had arrived late and they had waited in the cold.

That evening taught me to check messages before I travel. My friends had been patient, but the film had started without me. Since then I have confirmed meeting times earlier, though that Friday remains a clear example of what had happened when I had arrived too late.
