Relocating to a bustling foreign capital to take on an international corporate assignment is an exhilarating life change . Yesterday morning , our design department received a long , cheerful email from our former lead graphic designer , Emma , who transferred to our company's Berlin studio last month . During our coffee break , I read her email aloud so our former teammates could hear how she was settling in . Emma told us that Berlin was an incredibly vibrant and creative city with an eclectic artistic atmosphere . She said that cycling to work along dedicated bike paths was her favorite part of the day because it allowed her to admire historic street architecture . She explained that her new apartment in Kreuzberg had tall ceilings , wooden floors , and a sunny balcony overlooking a lively community square filled with cafes . Regarding her work environment , Emma had equally glowing remarks to share . She told us that the Berlin design team had welcomed her warmly with traditional German pretzels and coffee on her first morning . She mentioned that her new design projects were challenging but creatively liberating . She added that while most workplace meetings were conducted in English , she had enrolled in intensive evening German language courses to communicate effortlessly with local clients . Before ending her email , Emma invited our entire design team to visit Germany in summer . She said that she would happily host anyone who wanted to explore Berlin's museums and historic galleries . She told us that she missed our friendly office humor and promised to send another update soon . Relocating abroad broadens cultural perspectives and stimulates professional growth . When friends or colleagues move to new cities , how do you keep in touch with their journeys ? What questions do you usually ask when friends share exciting news about their foreign adventures ?
