I am Luis. My sister Clara visits on Saturdays, and we always split chores before lunch. This week the list looks long, yet separable verbs appear in almost every task.

We start in the garage. Clara asks me to take the recycling bins out and take them out to the curb. I pick the green bin up and pick it up while she pulls the blue one. After we set the bins out, we wipe our hands off on a towel and wipe them off because the handles feel sticky.

Inside, Clara turns the vacuum cleaner on and turns it on for the living room rug. I pick toys up from the floor and pick them up so the brush will not jam. When she finishes, she switches the vacuum off and switches it off with a loud click.

In the kitchen I fill the sink up with hot water and fill it up to soak pans. Clara tells me to rinse the sauce off the big pot and rinse it off before soaking. I pick the pot up and pick it up carefully because it is heavy.

We look a repair video up on a tablet and look it up to fix a loose cupboard hinge. The presenter says to take the old screw out and take it out slowly. I do that, then I put a longer screw in and put it in until the door hangs straight.

Clara writes a donation list down and writes it down for items we no longer need. We fill bags up with clothes and fill them up for the charity shop. I carry the bags to the car and throw empty boxes away in the alley and throw them away after breaking them flat.

Before Clara leaves, she picks her keys up from the table and picks them up. I hand a borrowed book back to her and hand it back with a bookmark inside. She hugs me and says we should set a date up for next month and set it up in the calendar app.

The house looks brighter when she drives away. Weekend chores are never exciting, yet they give steady practice: take them out, rinse it off, fill them up, hand it back. By repeating those patterns, the grammar stays in my ears as much as in my notebook.
