I am Tomas. My partner Ana and I moved in together last spring, and our first flat felt empty when we carried the last box through the door. We had to set up everything from scratch, and phrasal verbs filled every conversation that week.
On moving day we woke up early and loaded the van. Ana's brother dropped off a ladder and some tools in the morning. He helped us bring in the sofa before he had to head off to work. We thanked him and promised to invite him over once we sorted out the living room.

In the afternoon we tried to figure out where each piece of furniture should go. Ana wanted to put the desk near the window, but the socket was on the other wall. We moved the table around until the layout felt right, then sat down for a short break.
That evening we ordered food because we had not unpacked the plates yet. While we waited, I hung up a few pictures and Ana put away towels in the bathroom. The delivery driver rang up when he arrived, and I went down to pick up the bags.
The next day we set up the internet router. The technician showed up at ten and walked us through the process. He asked us to plug in the modem, wait for lights to come on, and then log in with a temporary password. Everything worked after twenty minutes.
We still had boxes piled up in the hall. Ana suggested we break down the cardboard and take it out to recycling. I cut tape, folded panels, and carried stacks downstairs. When I came back, Ana had already put away books on the shelf.
In the kitchen we ran out of bin bags, so I popped out to the corner shop. I picked up milk, bread, and a pack of bags while I was there. Ana stayed home and continued to tidy up drawers, throwing away old receipts she found in the cutlery tray.
By the end of the week the flat started to feel like home. We turned on lamps in the evening, put on music softly, and hung out on the new sofa. Friends came over on Saturday. They helped us finish off a few jobs and stayed up late talking.
One small problem appeared on Sunday. The shower dripped all night, so I looked up a local plumber online and wrote down his number. He came on Monday, fixed the valve, and told us to turn off the water if we went away.
