La regla principal
La rutina se cuenta en present simple: I get up, I have breakfast. Con he y she el verbo lleva -s: she gets up, he goes, she has. La hora va con at (at seven), la parte del día con in the (in the morning), pero se dice at night.
Expresiones de la rutina
| Expresión | I | he, she |
|---|---|---|
| wake up (despertarse) | I wake up | she wakes up |
| get up (levantarse) | I get up | he gets up |
| have a shower (ducharse) | I have a shower | she has a shower |
| get dressed (vestirse) | I get dressed | he gets dressed |
| brush my teeth (lavarse los dientes) | I brush my teeth | she brushes her teeth |
| have breakfast, lunch, dinner (desayunar, almorzar o comer, cenar) | I have breakfast | he has lunch |
| go to work, go to school (ir al trabajo, a la escuela) | I go to work | she goes to school |
| start work, finish work (empezar, terminar de trabajar) | I start work | he finishes work |
| get home (llegar a casa) | I get home | she gets home |
| cook dinner (preparar la cena) | I cook dinner | he cooks dinner |
| do homework (hacer los deberes, la tarea) | I do my homework | she does her homework |
| watch TV (ver la tele) | I watch TV | he watches TV |
| go to bed (acostarse) | I go to bed | she goes to bed |
I get up, I have a shower, I get dressed, I go to bed. Y donde el español tiene un verbo (desayunar, almorzar, cenar), el inglés usa have + la comida, sin artículo: have breakfast, have lunch, have dinner.
Otra diferencia: en español basta con «se levanta a las siete», pero en inglés el sujeto siempre aparece: She gets up at seven.
Ejemplos
- I wake up at seven o'clock. Me despierto a las siete.
- My brother gets up at half past seven.
- She has a shower and gets dressed. Se ducha y se viste.
- We have breakfast in the kitchen. Desayunamos en la cocina.
- My dad goes to work at eight.
- The children go to school in the morning.
- Laura finishes work at five and gets home at six.
- In the evening, he cooks dinner and watches TV.
- I go to bed at eleven. Me acuesto a las once.
He y she: el verbo con -s
La regla del tema anterior sigue aquí: con he, she, it y con un nombre (Laura, my dad) el verbo lleva -s. Algunos verbos de la rutina cambian la escritura: después de -sh, -ch, -s se añade -es (brushes, washes, watches, finishes), go y do pasan a goes y does, study pasa a studies y have pasa a has.
En una expresión de dos palabras, la -s va en el verbo, no al final: she gets up, he wakes up. Y el posesivo cambia con el sujeto: I brush my teeth, pero she brushes her teeth.
La hora: at
Partes del día: in the morning, at night
| En inglés | En español | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| in the morning | por la mañana | I have a shower in the morning. |
| in the afternoon | por la tarde (después de comer) | We go to the park in the afternoon. |
| in the evening | a última hora de la tarde, por la noche (antes de dormir) | He watches TV in the evening. |
| at night | por la noche, de noche | My mum works at night. |
«Por la mañana» no se traduce con for ni by: es in the morning, con in y con the. Ojo con la tarde y la noche, porque no coinciden con el inglés: «por la tarde» cubre el afternoon y también el comienzo del evening (a las siete, por ejemplo), y «por la noche» cubre el evening y la night. En inglés, evening va desde que acaba la tarde hasta que te acuestas, y at night es la noche en que se duerme o ya muy tarde. Por eso «ceno por la noche» suele ser I have dinner in the evening.
Sin artículo: go to work, go home
En go to work, go to school y go to bed no hay artículo, aunque en español digas «al trabajo» o «a la cama»: se habla de la actividad, no de un edificio o una cama concretos. Y home ya significa «a casa», así que va sin to: go home, get home.
El orden: first, then, after that, finally
Para contar tu día paso a paso, empieza las frases con first (primero), then (luego), after that (después) y finally (por último). Suelen ir al principio de la frase; después de first, after that y finally se suele poner coma.
Un día de Marcos
- First, Marcos gets up and has a shower. Primero, Marcos se levanta y se ducha.
- Then he gets dressed and has breakfast. Luego se viste y desayuna.
- After that, he goes to work. Después va al trabajo.
- He finishes work at six and gets home at seven.
- Finally, he goes to bed at eleven. Por último, se acuesta a las once.
Have no siempre es «tener»
En have breakfast, have lunch y have a shower, have es la acción misma: desayunar, almorzar, ducharse. Con he y she pasa a has: she has lunch at one.
Gets up at seven. She gets up at seven. El sujeto no se omite. He go to work at eight. He goes to work at eight. Con he y she, el verbo lleva -s.I breakfast at eight.I have breakfast at eight. Breakfast es un sustantivo: hace falta have.I wash my teeth.I brush my teeth. Los dientes se cepillan: brush.I brush the teeth.I brush my teeth. Con partes del cuerpo, posesivo: my, his, her.I go to home at six.I go home at six. Home va sin to.I go to the bed at eleven.I go to bed at eleven. En la rutina, sin artículo.I get up at the seven.I get up at seven. Delante de la hora no va the.
