La routine quotidiana con il present simple

Per raccontare com’è la tua giornata in inglese si usa il present simple: I get up at seven, then I have breakfast. Se parli di un’altra persona, il verbo prende la -s: she gets up, he goes to work.

A1 Presente di base ·

La regola principale

La routine si racconta con il present simple: I get up, I have breakfast. Con he e she il verbo prende la -s: she gets up, he goes, she has. L’ora vuole at (at seven), la parte della giornata in the (in the morning), ma si dice at night.

In inglese in queste espressioni non c’è nessun pronome riflessivo, né me né myself: I wake up, I get up, I get dressed.

Esempi

  • I wake up at seven o'clock. Mi sveglio alle sette in punto.
  • My brother gets up at half past seven.
  • She has a shower and gets dressed. Fa la doccia e si veste.
  • We have breakfast in the kitchen. Facciamo colazione in cucina.
  • My dad goes to work at eight. Mio padre va al lavoro alle otto.
  • The children go to school in the morning. I bambini vanno a scuola la mattina.
  • Giulia finishes work at five and gets home at six.
  • In the evening, he cooks dinner and watches TV. La sera prepara la cena e guarda la TV.
  • I go to bed at eleven. Vado a letto alle undici.

He e she: il verbo con la -s

La regola dell’argomento precedente vale anche qui: con he, she, it e con un nome (Giulia, my dad) il verbo prende la -s. Alcuni verbi della routine hanno una grafia particolare: dopo -sh, -ch, -s si aggiunge -es (brushes, washes, watches, finishes), go e do diventano goes e does, study diventa studies e have diventa has.

Nelle espressioni di due parole la -s va sul verbo, non in fondo: she gets up, he wakes up. E l’aggettivo possessivo cambia con il soggetto: I brush my teeth, ma she brushes her teeth.

L’ora: at

L’ora vuole at, senza articolo: «alle sette» è at seven, non «at the seven» (in italiano «alle» contiene l’articolo, in inglese non c’è). «Le sette e mezza» è half past seven, oppure, in cifre, 7:30, che si legge seven thirty: I get up at half past seven.

Le parti della giornata: in the morning, at night

In ingleseIn italianoEsempio
in the morningla mattina, di mattinaI have a shower in the morning.
in the afternoonil pomeriggio, di pomeriggioWe go to the park in the afternoon.
in the eveningla sera, di seraHe watches TV in the evening.
at nightdi notteMy mum works at night.

«La mattina» o «di mattina» in inglese si dice in the morning, con in e con the: non si usa at e non si omette l’articolo. L’unica eccezione è at night, la notte vera e propria, quando si dorme o è molto tardi. La sera dopo il lavoro, prima di andare a dormire, è in the evening: «ceno la sera» è I have dinner in the evening, non at night.

Senza articolo: go to work, go home

In go to work, go to school e go to bed non c’è l’articolo, anche se in italiano dici «al lavoro» e «a letto»: si parla dell’attività, non di un edificio o di un letto preciso. E home significa già «a casa», quindi non vuole to: go home, get home.

L’ordine: first, then, after that, finally

Per raccontare la giornata passo per passo, apri le frasi con first (prima), then (poi), after that (dopo) e finally (infine). Di solito stanno all’inizio della frase; dopo first, after that e finally si mette spesso la virgola.

  • First, Marco gets up and has a shower.
  • Then he gets dressed and has breakfast. Poi si veste e fa colazione.
  • After that, he goes to work. Dopo va al lavoro.
  • He finishes work at six and gets home at seven.
  • Finally, he goes to bed at eleven. Infine va a letto alle undici.

Have non è sempre «avere»

In have breakfast, have lunch e have a shower, have indica l’azione stessa: fare colazione, pranzare, fare la doccia. Con he e she diventa has: she has lunch at one.

Errori tipici

  • Gets up at seven. She gets up at seven. Il soggetto non si omette.
  • He go to work at eight. He goes to work at eight. Con he e she il verbo prende la -s.
  • I wake me up at seven. I wake up at seven. Nessun pronome riflessivo.
  • I make a shower every morning. I have a shower every morning. Fare la doccia si dice have a shower.
  • I go to the work at eight. I go to work at eight. Nella routine, senza articolo.
  • I go to home at six. I go home at six. Home non vuole to.
  • I get up at the seven. I get up at seven. Prima dell’ora non va the.
  • I wash my teeth. I brush my teeth. I denti si spazzolano: brush.
